Snug Harbor, Rhode Island may have the nation’s only Independence Day parade with a fishing-rod drill team. In fact, that’s how the Fourth of July parade started in the village on Point Judith Pond. Neil Pires got a group of anglers together to form a drill team that marches with surf rods, says Elisa Jackman of Snug Harbor Marina. Soon, residents added floats. Most of them are built on the Fourth, but a few long-range visionaries in the village start the night before, Jackman says. The parade is scheduled to start July 4 around 6 p.m. at Snug Harbor Marina, 410 Gooseberry Road, Wakefield.
